Straiton Hall meeting July 31st --- city staff to host "open house" on the Sumas Mountain Plan (now "Study")

July 25, 2012

Please make plans to attend the upcoming (July 31st) "open house" at 6:00 PM at Straiton Hall --- it is being hosted by Abbotsford city staff. It is meant to get the input of Sumas Mountain property owners regarding the "Sumas Mountain Environmental Management Study".

This "study" or plan as it formerly was called, is meant to be used in the development of a new Official Community Plan for Sumas Mountain. It's very important to the interests of rural property owners.

Based on what's been released so far, the plan envisions turning a large portion of Sumas Mountain into a nature preserve of sorts. However, the city is now admitting it went too far, too fast without getting the input of residents, and now appears to be rolling-back the concept until we've had a chance to have our say.

We encourage you to make plans to attend this meeting, and also a second meeting at 6:00 PM that is scheduled for September 11th (also at Straiton Hall). This is an important issue facing rural mountain residents, as it will affect much of what happens up here on Sumas Mountain for years and decades to come.
