We've put together some relevant documents regarding City Hall's plans for Sumas Mountain. Some of these documents are hard to dig up on the web so we've provided copies of them here.
Copy of letter from Jay Teichroeb to Sumas Mountain residents re SMEMP/SMEMS (July 2012)
This is the one we all should have received in the mail. It renames the SMEMP to the SMEMS, and invites residents to provide input at upcoming open house meetings at Straiton Hall.
Copy of City web page on the SMEMP
This page has now been scrubbed from the City's website as far as we know.
Copy of City web page on Species at Risk
If you're wondering what exactly "species at risk" means you will find there is no clear answer, nor is there a legally consistent definition.
Update memorandum to Area H Advisory Committee on SMEMP (March 22, 2012)
A memo from city staff to Area H committee regarding progress on the SMEMP.
Copy of the presentation made to Area H Advisory Committee (April 25, 2012)
This document contains maps showing various proposed "wildlife corridors" and "zero disturbance zones" in some of our back yards (and front yards). It's a good overview to provide the flavor of the city's vision for Sumas Mountain.
Sumas Mountain Sensitive Areas Ecosystems Inventory --- Study and Map (December, 2010)
The resolution is low, but if you can find your property on the maps you'll discover if your property is "potential habitat" for threatened species like shrews, snails, frogs, etc. This document provides some of the framework for the SMEMP/SMEMS.
Sumas Mountain Official Community Plan, FVRD Version (2003)
This old official community plan for Sumas Mountain (when Area H was administered by the FVRD) is slated to become extinct, when the City of Abbotsford develops a new one. Here we've provided a copy of it. It's interesting to look at, in comparison to the newly announced Sumas Mountain Environmental Management Plan/Study.
